To deliver a presentation is a really effective way to brush your English skill up. I recommend you to try delivering a presentation when you go abroad to study English. I\u2019ll introduce some logo marks with 6 categories. Then let me go on to the main subject. By the way, what do you think about the definition of a logo mark? A symbol of a company? Of course yes, that\u2019s right.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a dictionary, logo means a small design that is the official sign of a\u00a0company or organization. But in my opinion, it is a first impression of a company and at the same time, it represents everything of the company. I mean, behind the logo marks, they have their long histories, company\u2019s concepts, and meanings. In other words, I can say that they are the soul of the company. So I don\u2019t understand why people don\u2019t pay attention to logo marks. I think this presentation will be a good opportunity to change your thoughts about logo marks and after this, you will know their appeals. I wanna talk to you about many things but unfortunately I don\u2019t have enough time today so let\u2019s go back to twitters logo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you usually use twitter? Then did you notice the change of twitter\u2019s logo recently? Actually it has changed. This is the old one. Ok, check your cell phone or ipod! See! Maybe you can see the different logo and this is the new one!<\/span><\/p>\n

Have you noticed? Even though you use twitter everyday, you didn\u2019t realize. It is interesting. Since the new logo is quite beautiful, someone researched about it.<\/span><\/p>\n

To my surprise, it was created only by golden ratio! Are you familiar with golden ratio? So to speak, made from circles only. The new one is mathematically calculated.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

According to a dictionary, the word twitter has two main reasons. First, If a bird twitters, it makes a lot of short high sounds. Second, to talk about unimportant and silly things, usually very quickly and nervously in a high voice. I think \u201ca lot of\u00a0 short\u201d and \u201cquickly\u201d are key words of twitter. So you have already learned that logo marks represent themselves well. A while ago, I mentioned about golden ratio. Please look at the next picture.<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, the apple logo mark is also make by golden ratio only!<\/span><\/p>\n

And surprisingly, all apple products are composed by golden ratio!! Amazing isn\u2019t it?<\/span><\/p>\n

All right? So let\u2019s think about apple logo mark. According to research, apple logo was created by a designer named Rob Janoff in 1977.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

And the original one has colorful strips. It means, lust, knowledge, hope, and anarchy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

At first, apple logo was like this. It was not simple like now. But he designed new logo. So Steve Jobs decided to follow it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

By the way, I\u2019d like to concentrate on this question \u201dWho bit apple\u2019s apple?\u201d It has some mysterious theories.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

One theory says that the bite symbolized knowledge and the bite could also be pronounced \u201cbyte\u201d, a reference to computer technology. It is reasonable and logical. However, according to an interview of Rob Janoff, it was just his inspiration. when they design a logo mark,\u00a0 they always refer to their inspiration and sense. So, he says that even he doesn\u2019t answer that question. I was convinced because when I draw something, I also depend on my sense and inspiration. Sometimes, it perhaps is meaningless to think about the meaning of logo.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway in 1997, Steve Jobs decided to drop the multi-colored apple logo and replace it by a solid-colored logo. Personally, I like those simple types better than the old one. So far, do you understand that logo marks is interesting? Ok then let\u2019s move on to the next one.<\/span><\/p>\n

How about this? What do you think about this logo? It is called \u201cSwoosh\u201d It means a sound like “shooo” in Japanese. NIKE is a goddess of victory in Greek mythology and the mark means a wing of NIKE.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a matter of fact, it was designed by a girl who was a college student only for 35 dollars. I was very very surprised! Ok next!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Now, let\u2019s talk about Starbucks. I think you are familiar with this logo. But how many teachers and students know who she is? Who is she? She is called Siren.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

She sometimes appears in a Greek mythology. She is famous for as a mermaid who has twin tail and famous her melodious voice and a seductive mystery mixed with a nautical theme. And that was exactly the founders were looking for as a logo. It was also like a inspiration. They didn\u2019t intend to use her as the logo.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

This mark is the first logo of Starbucks and then, they\u2019ve redesigned repeatedly because, for example, they thought that to use a woman who is half naked and opening her legs as a logo is uncomfortable. So, they have changed it historically. Today, this logo is one of the famous branded logo but once we research the process of those kinds of logos, we can learn about profound concepts of corporations and we are able to develop an attachment to those companies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Toyota also has some respectable meanings. Two ellipses mean \u201cT\u201d of Toyota. It is obvious. The other ellipse is not so obvious. It means the global network. You know an ellipse has two focuses. It means the users&Toyota. So, this mark represents a strong tie between them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Ok, so let\u2019s move on to the next. How about those kinds of logo marks? What do you think? They are very simple. Just only letters. Maybe even I and you can create these logos. Is this a laziness? Of course not. They have each meanings and logo designers. But I\u2019m sure that their stable concept is \u201cSimple is the best\u201d Because of this, their products are always simple and stylish. What makes them more interesting is that they comprise some very famous, successful and international companies like SONY, SAMSUNG. I learned that simple logos also affect people\u2019s incentive.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ok, then form now, let me mention about Filipino logo marks.\u00a0First, your life saver… SM! I\u2019d like to ask you a question. What is SM?<\/span><\/p>\n

When I look back on the history, It means \u201cShoe Mart\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

I was surprised because I thought it means like a super market. And also there are some theories. Someone insists that SM means \u201cShigemasa Matsuo\u201d. Someone insists that it means \u201cShimaji Masaya\u201d Anyway today, SM is still developing and they have some kinds of logo marks.\u00a0Super market, Hyper market, Department store…<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Like this.\u00a0Maybe you hadn\u2019t thought about SM logo marks.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Next, probably you are familiar with this logo. It is Jollibee. When I see it for the first time, I didn\u2019t think this is a bee because of his color. Red?? Strange, isn’t it??<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, he has many friends and they are popular among children in the philippines. By the way, Jollibee is a branch of Jollibee foundation. So, I\u2019ll introduce to you the meaning of the foundation\u2019s logo.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The sun means a brighter and happier tomorrow. The hill means a better future is not easy and it requires determination and hard work. The eight stones mean customer focus, excellence, respect for the individual, teamwork, spirit of family and fun, humility to listen and learn, honesty and integrity, and frugality. Jollibee is progressing rapidly.<\/span><\/p>\n

So someday the day which he can beat his true friend may come.<\/span><\/p>\n

Personally, the most impressive logo in the Philippines is this one. We can see it everywhere. But have you noticed that this logo also changed recently?<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

This is the old one. The new one replaced the old one in October 2011 during the concert of Black Eyed peas in Manila. The reason why I like this logo is that the design is very simple but I can guess that the eight colorful dots express the company\u2019s deep concepts.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

According to SMART, it reflects the freedom and empowerment that SMART\u2019s broader range of products and services make possible. The dots signifies flexibility and dynamism that SMART can rearrange them any way they want to represent anything. Frankly speaking, it represents five concepts. Be connected, be everywhere, be free, be empowered, and be SMART. The logo is very simple but it has strong meanings.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Then how about national flags? Can we regard national flags as one of the logo marks? I think we can. Because they have their own histories and meanings and also they represent their countrie\u2019s symbols. So let\u2019s think about our flags.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

First, maybe you all know, this is the Japanese flag. But why is this so simple? what does it mean?<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Is this a lunch box with plum pickles?<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s right, but at the same time, it has respected meanings. Historically, ancient Japanese prayed the sun as a god of fishing and farming. So, the circle means the sun. There are so many complicated theories that nobody can specify that who designed the flag and when they started using it as a flag. But officially the government began using it as a national flag in 1870. We Japanese call this \u201cHinomaru\u201d. \u201cHi\u201d means the sun. \u201cMaru\u201d means a circle. We can learn that Japanese flag is very simple even that meanings.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand, the flag of the Philippines is more complicated. I asked some teachers about the meanings of the flag but their answers were sometimes different.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

According to my research, the blue part means peace and ideal. The red part means war. Interestingly, during a war like WW2, they turned this flag upside down. They emphasized the war. The white part means equality and friendship. This three stars represent the three islands Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The sun means freedom. And these eight rays represent these cities which got weapons first when the Philippines became independent. Actually, the government decided to add one more ray last year because they want to admire Filipino Muslim who didn\u2019t submit to Spain. But they haven\u2019t followed it. As you know, when I compare this flag with the Japanese one, it has more complicated and deeper meanings.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, what do you know logo this is? Please look at this picture carefully. C…N…E…1! Have you noticed? This is the old logo of CNE1.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

You can see this logo on the stage! This logo is hidden by rubbish actually…<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Then, let\u2019s analys this logo! You can see two people and ABC so it represents the CNE1 style of classes. And we can see a smily face at the same time. This logo is created by Mr. Gurley before CNE1 opend. He loves this logo. But Mr.Isaka hated it. There are some stories. Mr. Isaka didn\u2019t like it because of the color. He disagreed to use this logo. So they used it only once at a ceremony of CNE1 opening. I think it looks a little dark… Anyway now, CNE1 logo is different from this one.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

This is completely different from the old one. CNE1\u2019s corporate colors are orange, skyblue, and white. So Mr. Isaka really wanted to change. But CNE1 didn\u2019t have enough money to ask a company to create the new logo. Then he asked his younger brother to create it and he created this one. Therefore, there is no complicated meanings of the new logo. He just was particular about the color and the simplicity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Could you enjoy my speech? I\u2019m glad if you are more interested in logo marks than before thorough this speech. I think that learning what logo marks mean is like a conversation. By researching the meanings of logo marks, you will feel a strong attachment to their corporation and you will love them more deeply. You can expand knowledge too. I think everyone has favorite brand but do you know what the logo mark of your favorite brand means?\u00a0 After you know the logo mark\u2019s meaning, you have right to tell about the beauty and value of them. If you go shopping while chatting with someone or if you go to school while listening to music, you perhaps gets a loss. Look up your face and watch around your town. There are a lot of secrets.
